While many of them are caused by people \u201cjust browsing,\u201d other studies show that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/e-commerce-shoppers-abandon-carts-at-payment-stage-2016-3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">46% of cart abandonments occur at the payment stage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/Article\/Cart-Abandonment-Really-Come-Down-Cost\/1015092?ecid=NL1001&amp;utm_content=buffera181b&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">72% of online shoppers in the US say an order being too expensive is a top reason for abandonment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img_responsive aligncenter wp-image-815\" src=\"https:\/\/web_staging_fern.staging.cartstack.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/1_0vqskrw_DbLAIKhnOKpd8Q-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cartstack-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/1_0vqskrw_DbLAIKhnOKpd8Q-1.png 1600w, https:\/\/cartstack-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/1_0vqskrw_DbLAIKhnOKpd8Q-1-300x99.png 300w, https:\/\/cartstack-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/1_0vqskrw_DbLAIKhnOKpd8Q-1-768x253.png 768w, https:\/\/cartstack-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/1_0vqskrw_DbLAIKhnOKpd8Q-1-1024x337.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of this points to a couple important realities:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Merchants have a very hard time getting consumers to complete checkouts online.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many consumers are abandoning checkouts because they can\u2019t or don\u2019t want to pay the costly total at the time of purchase.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Because of these realities, Sezzle and CartStack have decided to partner up. A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankrate.com\/finance\/consumer-index\/money-pulse-0616.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bankrate study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from last year found that only 33% of millennials own a credit card. A separate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/08\/15\/business\/dealbook\/why-millennials-are-in-no-hurry-to-take-on-debt.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New York Times analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that the percentage of people under the age of 35 who carry card debt was at an almost 30-year low.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the youngest millennials, credit is becoming harder to get. Consumers in their early 20s are having an especially hard time these days qualifying for new cards. As a result of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Credit_CARD_Act_of_2009\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Credit CARD Act of 2009<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, would-be borrowers under the age of 21 can\u2019t qualify for a new credit card unless he or she can prove they have sufficient independent income to repay their bills or if they can convince a more qualified borrower to co-sign for their card.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The CARD Act also cracked down on issuers\u2019 ability to market to college students on campus or offer gifts in exchange for filling out an application, making students less likely to sign up for a card on a whim.<\/p>\n<p>Now, some credit card issuers are making it even harder for would-be millennial borrowers to access a new credit card. In December 2016, Discover became the latest credit card issuer to announce that it would no longer allow people to co-sign for other people\u2019s cards. Most other major card issuers, including Capital One, Chase and Citi, also bar student applicants from recruiting co-signers for their cards.<\/p>\n<p>Experts say that a lack of access to credit at a young age could have long-term consequences for millennials who want to apply for more credit down the line. To qualify for credit, you must prove that you can responsibly use it, which can feel like a tall order for consumers who have never borrowed in the first place. For millennials who have struggled to qualify for credit in the past, passing that test and qualifying for a new card could feel like such an overwhelming hurdle that they don\u2019t even bother to try.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#SezzleIt<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s where Sezzle comes in. Consumers pay Sezzle 25% at the time of purchase, and are then set up with an automatic repayment plan that has them pay an additional 25% every two weeks till the bill is paid in full. And they\u2019re not charged one cent of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers that would normally have been scared off by high purchase totals will now complete checkout with the knowledge that they can pay over time. Other consumers will simply buy more than they otherwise would have. And this can all be done without the worry of hidden fees, high interest rates, and remembering to pay bills on time\u200a\u2014\u200aage-old issues with credit cards.<\/p>\n<p>This solution is intended to help consumers with more than just buying more stuff, though, so all repayment activity will be reported to the credit bureaus. If they pay their installments on time, their credit score goes up. If they miss payments repeatedly or don\u2019t pay it back, their credit score goes down.
